I have been working with Year 1 and Year 2 children in groups of 4 at a time. All the children benefit: those who never get read with at home and good readers who have fallen behind. The children love the programme and it is lovely to see them progress. Also, it is great working alongside the class teacher and supporting the undertaking of the Year 1 Phonics Test; I feel part of their team. John, Teacher, Bradford.
It’s great to be involved with a literacy programme that has such a significant impact on children’s progress. Working in small groups alongside the class teacher and being involved in phonics testing; I feel a valued member of the school team. I would recommend any qualified teacher to register to become a tutor; the training was paid as work, which was a good start! Susan, TA, Barnet.
It’s very rewarding being able to tutor in small groups and know you are making such a big difference to pupils who have clearly fallen behind. I’ve been a TA for several years and this is the most rewarding position. Excellent programme, content, training and support. Liz, TA, Liverpool.
This is one of the best roles I’ve had, the content is all done and is excellent, so there’s no lesson planning. I’ve learnt quite a bit and the training was perfect. I much prefer being a supply tutor than a supply teacher now. John, teacher, St. Helens.
It’s great to have all the content planned, it’s very engaging with the children. The report tracking is superb as you can clearly see the progress – the most satisfying role I’ve had in years and the pay is great! Pat, Supply Teacher, Manchester.
After 7 days, of delivering the Lightning Squad programme, I am thoroughly enjoying it. Delivering a such a well-established and organised programme with Year 1 and 2 children, on a one-to-one basis and pairs, means you get to do quality teaching. Some of the children are not read with at home and the progress they are making is astounding; at the end of the day, I leave knowing what a difference I am making. Jane, Teacher, Islington.
The training was well planned, and the school placement has been excellent. The school organisation at Dalton has been fantastic. All the staff have been very accommodating and thus having a positive impact on the children’s reading. The Year One children like coming because I have stickers with Rainbows and Unicorns on. Lovely to see progress and the children master a skill, or word meaning. John, Teacher, Bradford.
I am enjoying doing quality teaching and going home and feeling I am making a difference without the demands of lesson plans and marking. Becky, Teaching Assistant, Wakefield.
