For decades we’ve been placing teachers and support staff within SEND schools around Lancashire and Cumbria and keep track of trends within the area and school performance. We’ve recently introduced SEND Top Tips to our website, which we will continue to expand over the year.
There are 57 SEND schools within the Lancashire, 29 of which are Community Special Schools and 28 Independent Special Schools, amongst the schools 5 are boys only and one girls only, the remainder being mixed. There are 18 SEND schools within the Cumbria, 3 of which are Community Special Schools, 2 Academy and 13 Independent Special Schools.
2019 research indicated there were 1.32 million SEND pupils in the UK and approximately 24,283 full-time teachers. State funded special or PRU FTE teacher numbers has seen a steady increase over the last 10 years, with a massive overall increase of nearly 9,000 FTE teachers since 2010/11. The 2019 PTR (pupil to teacher ratio) is 5.9.
We’ve gained insight into the type of person suited to working within an early-years learning environment and created some SEND Top Tips which we are keen to share with anyone considering a profession within this sector. We are also collating case studies and career journeys to help inspire other individuals to join the profession.
